Connecticut Drug Testing Information

Connecticut's stance on drug-free workplaces has evolved, particularly with the legalization and regulation of adult-use cannabis. The legislation signed by Governor Ned Lamont includes provisions that allow employers to maintain drug-free workplaces while balancing the new legal status of cannabis. Employers are permitted to enforce policies prohibiting the use or influence of cannabis at work and during working hours. However, the law also introduces protections for employees who use cannabis outside of work, prohibiting adverse actions against them solely based on off-duty use or positive THC test results, unless such actions align with an employer's established drug-free workplace policy. Certain industries and roles, deemed "exempt" due to safety concerns or federal requirements, may have different regulations. Employers are encouraged to develop clear, comprehensive drug-free workplace policies that communicate their stance on cannabis use, including its implications on employment and the workplace environment
